Whole Foods will have Large Hass Avocados on sale for $1 each tomorrow, Friday August 15th. This is a C graded prices, but it beats most other stores this week so if you need Avocados you may want to stop by. π
What to know about these avocados:
*Avocados are an excellent source of potassium, folic acid and vitamin C. They have very little starch or sugar, yet contain more protein than any other fruit!
*When choosing an avocado, test for ripeness by holding it and gently squeezing β if it yields, itβs ripe. Look for fruit that is free of soft spots, which indicate bruising.
*Store unripe avocados at room temperature for a few days β they will continue to ripen. To speed up the ripening process, place them in a loosely closed paper sack. Adding a banana or apple to the sack will accelerate the process even further.
*Making guacamole and want to keep it looking fresh? Press plastic wrap down onto the surface of the dip, eliminating all contact with air, to keep up its bright green appearance.
Did you know?
The most common avocado variety sold in the U.S. is the Hass, which has bumpy skin that changes from bright green to black as it ripens.
