Some of you may have noticed us including Ibotta coupons in the Target and Rite Aid weekly posts. I’ve been getting a few questions on what Ibotta is and how the program works, so I thought I’d break it down for you!
First of all, I’ll tell you that this new program is awesome since it actually lets you earn cash on your purchases.
Now here are some more details on Ibotta:
What is Ibotta and How Does it Work?
Ibotta is an app for smartphones (Android and iPhone) that contains many different money saving offers for popular products. You can learn facts, watch videos and take one question surveys before purchasing a product to earn cash. Once you have purchased the product, you simply take a picture of your receipt showing your purchase of the item. Ibotta allows you to earn up to $40 cash per shopping trip.
How Do I Get Paid?
Once youโve redeemed offers totaling $5 or more, Ibotta lets you transfer your earnings directly to your PayPal account. Choose “Withdraw Cash” from the main menu of the app, then select “Get My Cash” to link Ibotta to your PayPal account.

Justin says
I have a iPhone and There are tons of rebates that I don’t use. How can I get new rebates. I read about the thumbs up/down feature but I don’t have it
James says
So what’s the angle here? Is it strictly data mining for “marketing” sake? People don’t just hand out free money and it doesn’t appear to have anything to do with the actual store. Are you selling the data you collect from everyone’s receipts and the 1 question surveys?
Thanks
Jennie says
James you would want to contact Ibotta direction with your questions – we just share the good deals here on Bargain Blessings. I can say though that brands appreciate the exposure they receive through apps like Ibotta (just like they do when they issue coupons for the the Sunday newspaper).
sulie says
what if you didnt have your receipt and someone took a picture of it for you could you submit it that way ??
Tiffany says
No, you have to manually take a picture of the receipt. There is no option to take photos from your gallery. Unless you can figure a way to utilize their picture to your camera, I do not believe there is a way to do that.
Sandy says
So if i go to walmart and purchase bananas ando everything thats on my shoplist Will i get money for allรญ te items?
Tiffany says
Yes. You would get 20 cents back on bananas. And the money goes to your “bank” and once you get $10 or more you can cash it in and get money through PayPal or get gift cards to many different places. My promo code is mbgwdvw if you need one. You get $10 extra after you enter 10 rebates within 1 month.
Nadine says
My local store doesn’t offer a courtesy card, but every time I go to verify it wants me to link a curtosey card!!! How do I get around that step??? Seen there isn’t a store card???
Michelle says
I was wondering the same thing
lin says
You just take pictures for stores that don’t have cards… Once you have unlocked all the products you want, Go to redeem and choose the products you bought (that you have already unlocked) then at the bottom it should say verify and once you click that it opens your camera and you take pictures of your whole receipt…..use the add section button for long receipts and just capture the whole receipt then click finish and they will find the products you selected you don’t need to link a loyalty card ๐
Laura says
I just want to know how to pronounce ibotta!
karen says
how soon after purchasing do you have to putitms into system
Tiffany says
You can put the items in as soon as you want. Don’t wait longer than a week for entering your items though.
karen says
do i have to take a picture of every item before I buy
Tiffany says
No. You unlock the item by watching a video or learning a fact. Then, after you buy the items, you scan the barcode and take a picture of the receipt and get however much it is listed for.
sharlien says
on ibotta it has 2 different discounts listed for milk, one of $1 and another of 20 cents. will they both be used when i scan my receipt or will only one work?
Stephanie says
Hi Sharlien,
Lately they have given double rebates on select items. When you scan the bar code, to either verify the product or when you are submitting, if they will allow both to be redeemed on that one purchase they will both pop up for you.
Hope that helps!
Stephanie
Robyn says
i bought some items on the list on Sunday but i didn’t scan the items in the store. can i scan the items now that i’ve brought them home and then scan the receipt?
Jennie says
Yes, you should be able to do that Robyn! ๐
lin says
I do all the work at home later and you only need to unlock the rebate before you pay IF your loyalty card is linked because it gets checked, without pictures or barcode scanning, at the time of purchase…. So if you have a card linked unlock all the rebates you want before you pay and if you don’t have a card linked you can do it all at home later no need to worry about it in the store…..
One of the things I think is really cool is that they give offers on items that never have coupons anywhere else like produce, milk, bread, and offers that are good on any brand like shredded cheese or chips and it doesnโt even matter what brand you buy!
April says
I have a question. I’m already an Ibotta member. Can we (me and my facebook friends)still join each other’s teams? Or how does it work if we both already have separate accounts. I haven’t been able to figure it out. Thanks.
Rachel says
Will ibotta give me a rebate on a free item? Like I have A Buy 1 Glade Wax Warmer get one refill free coupon. Ibotta at time of posting this question has a $1.25 rebate on 2 refills. So do I need to buy two refills on top of the free one that I get with coupon or will the free one count as the second refill?
Jennie says
That is a great question Rachel! I *think* that the free one would still qualify, but I could be wrong about that. Your best bet would be to ask on the Ibotta Facebook page. ๐ Sorry I couldn’t be of more help!
Meghan says
I used the coupon for a free wax melt with purchase of a burner. iBotta gave me the $1 rebate on the melts and the $3 on the warmer. I also earned the $2 Glade II iBotta bonus for redeeming two Glade rebates. I had a $1 coupon for the other melt.
I also purchased a Glade Automatic spray refill with a $1.50 off coupon, $1.5 iBotta rebate and redeemed the $2 rebate on 3 Glade products from Checkout 51.
So- 1 warmer, 2 melts and 1 can refill. $2.50 in paper coupons, Free wax melt. $7.50 back from iBotta and $2 from Checkout 51. Original cost: $21. Final price $5.79 for all.
And I haven’t even heard back from Walmart Savings Catcher yet! Sweet!!
Shannon powers says
Can I still sign up for ibotta without a pay pal account
Jennie says
I think you can, yes Shannon…and then just use the money you earn toward the gift cards that they offer like Regal and Starbucks. ๐
shawna says
Is it safe to log in or put in your PayPal info to ibotta to collect you cash ?
Kathy says
I am curious if I already belong to Saving Star, could I sign up for Ibotta as well? Would both give me rebates?
Jennie says
Yes, you can totally sign up for and use both Kathy! ๐
Terri says
can I use ibotta if I don’t have a smart phone or ipad or tablet?
Jennie says
Hi Terri~ No, unfortunately Ibotta does require you having a mobile device that is compatible with their app.
Megan says
Terri do you have an Ipod by chance? Some I pods can be used. When you look up Ibotta on internet it should tell you what devices can be used. I use my Ipod touch for Ibotta and works just fine for me.
Brittany says
Just downloaded the app. I know I can only scan 1 receipt per item but if I do multiple transactions and have let’s say 10 different receipts with that item can I scan each one & get the rebate for each receipt?
Jennie says
Hi Brittany~ The offers are each limited to one total per item, so after you redeem one receipt the offer will no longer be available to redeem on a second receipt.
kim says
I signed up through the link provided and I didnt get $5 , It only gave me $1:(
Jennie says
Hi Kim~ The $5 promotion is over now. It’s noted in my post above. ๐
Antonio says
My Ibotta app will not show cvs stores.
Sara says
I just submitted my first receipt. We’ll see how it goes. Unfortunately, the app doesn’t list any of the local grocery stores (yes, they are on the list). All I get is the Commissary, WalMart and Target. How do I find the rest?
julie says
Love this app! I got back $22 last month. Add that to coupons and sales and I can afford life again.
Linda says
I have downloaded the app but could you please explain how this works and how I use it. I don’t quit understand. Thank you Linda Pryor
Lori says
My question is if there is milk at each store, can I get the rebate from each store?
Jennie says
Hi Lori~ Each rebate is limited on being redeemed once, so no you could not use it at multiple stores. I hope that helps! ๐
Jim Durham says
Thanks for reply !!!!
Jim Durham says
Well now I see they have to approve of what you say before being published. Wonder why, i thought this country had free speach ????? But not on this web site !!!!!
Jennie says
Hi Jim~ Due to many spammers out there, yes, I do have comments set for me to approve them.
Jim Durham says
Ibotta is the worst coupon app i have ever used. They dont pay for one reason or another
Coupon not clear, all of coupon not showing, can’t see date, can’t see store name, I could go on more but i don’t have the time. Customer service is offal (word correct, means refuse, waste material or decomposing animal flesh) which ibotta seems to be !!!!!!!!!!!!!
if ibotta would like to talk to me I will be glad to talk to them but so far the want even show
telephone number for anyone to talk to them!!!!!!!
Jennie says
Jim~ My suggestion to you would be to contact Ibotta through their Facebook page. I’ve heard that a few readers have had good luck with that. I’ve personally been using Ibotta for quite a long time now and have not had a single issue.
mildred bean says
I have no smart phone or I pad
Carmen says
My friend and I both load this one from this site one straight from the App Store. Both of us got a $2 sign on bonus. They must not offer $5 for joining anymore. I do have a $5 for each friend who sins up under me though
Della says
I would like to sign up for this but after reading some of the comments I am wondering if it is now available for the Windows8.1 Verizon phone? Please let me know if it is or when it will be available as I don’t want to go through the hassle of signing up if it won’t work for me.
Thanks
Della
jean says
Hi Jennie
I am trying to buy a straight talk phone from wal-mart that will work with ibotta. Do you know which ones? I have looked all over.
Thanks
Jean
Jennie says
Hi Jean~ I wish I could help, but unfortunately I have no idea. Have you tried going into the store to ask them? You might also want to try asking on the Ibotta Facebook page. ๐
tanea says
hi I started using ibotta and am having a problem. after I take a picture of the receipt its asking me to scan the receipt……………am I supposed to push a certain button to scan it or does it scan itself………………..Help!!!
Jennie says
Hi Tanea~ I would recommend contacting Ibotta on their Facebook page with this issue….I’ve never heard of anyone having this problem so unfortunately I’m not sure how to fix it. Sorry that I could not be more help.
stephanie says
Hi, I was wondering if the ibotta app charges you any taxes or fees other than reactivation $1.99. So do they charge any , monthly or yearlytaxes or fees of any kind?
Marylea Scott says
When will you have an app for the Windows phone?
Andy says
I used your link to sign up and download the app, and I did not receive a new member credit? Am I missing something here (besides the $5)
Patricia M Bassett says
I recently connected Ibotta to my cell phone. Now I have a problem … how do I use it? What do I need to do and how do I cash in? I would love to recommend this to friends, but really would like to know what it is and how it works first. Please send instructions to my email address, listed above, and I will be a happy person. Thank you for your assistance.
yessy says
once you have your money transfer to your PayPal account, can you link a debit card and then use the money anywhere?
Jess says
I know this might be silly but I’m trying to understand. You watch the videos, buy the product, then transfer it into pay pal, then you can spend it however you like? Or do you have to go to those specific stores? Do they give you real cash? Or a “credit” like thing. Can someone explain this to me?
Jennie says
Hi Jess~ Once you have the money in your Paypal account it is just like cash…you can transfer it right to your bank account. ๐
Meagan says
My phone (even though it’s an Android) says the app is not compatible with my type of phone. Can this work strictly through email?
Jennie says
Unfortunately no Meagan. ๐ You do need to have the app.
big commerce says
Ahaa, its fastidious conversation regarding this piece of writing here at this weblog, I have read all that, so now me also commenting at this
place.
dandan says
can you use cash for ibotta or you have to use debit/credit card linked to your account. when you pay for your purchased in order to redeem them ?
Jennie says
You can pay with whatever you like. ๐
Mariol says
Hello Bargainblessings, I signed up using your link but I havent received any $5.00 you mentioned we will get? Please Help?
Hazel says
Ibotta – I’m stuck. It asked me to do a review and I said yes, now I’m stuck on a screen with an “Open” button that doesn’t open a dangy dern thing. My main thing that shows my apps has the Ibotta button with a 1 but it just takes me back to that review page – is this a Halloween Ibotta maze? If so, how do I get out of this maze without the use of a sledgehammer?
Thanks much for any help you can offer ๐
Hazel says
Problem solved, courtesy of AWW Andrea. Thank you!
I’m seeing all my little offers standing at attention with signs that say “pick me, pick me.” AND … no animals or humans were hurt during the process. I call that a good day!
Such a helpful family we have here ๐
Gigi says
My current redeem balance is $97.50 however when I tried to transfer money to my paypal account it said on the top right corner that my current earning was $0.00 what does that mean? Help me!
ashley adam says
is there a way to print off a computer the list I have created to redeem?? so that way I don’t have to keep looking thru my phone when I am at the store?
and also, im a lil confused… each ibotta offer is good for ONE item purchase? so it wont give me say 50 cents on each Clorox green works trigger spray cleaner I buy if I bought 4… I will only get 50 cents, not $2.00?
and once I use an offer… I CANT use it again, ever?
thank you,
Ashley from Texas new to couponing!!!
Hazel says
Mornin’ Ashley … I can’t help much on the ibotta questions but wanted to give you a big ole wave and welcome ๐
Donna says
Does the email that is on your paypal acct have to match the email on your ibotta acct? I have a paypal acct setup already that has a different email than what I have at work & I was wondering if that will be an issue when using ibotta.
thanks,
Jennie says
Hi Donna~ I’m not 100% sure since my e-mails are the same. I guess the best way to find out would be to test it! ๐
Carol says
Hi Donna,
If you look at the email portion of your profile in Paypal, you should be able to attach more than one email address to your account. That way you can add the email address you have on your Ibotta account and solve the problem.
Kendall says
Good morning,
I’m curious, can you have a list and not buy everything on it then use the same offers at another store later?
Can you reuse the offers at different stores? What I’m trying to ask is if I have a list of things I’m buying at walmart then go buy a few things at CVS, do I get paid for each time I use the offer?
Jennie says
Hi Kendall~ Most Ibotta offers have a limit of one use (at any store). I hope that helps! ๐
Caroline says
Are there any fees with PayPal when transferring money? And once money is the pay pal account what can I do with that?
Thanks!
Emily says
Hey there! Paypal shouldn’t charge you for receiving the money unless you’re a seller like on ebay but it all depends on how Ibotta transfers the money into your paypal account. They definitely don’t charge you for transferring the money from your paypal account into your bank account or if you use your paypal funds to make internet purchases.
Hope that helped.
Addison says
Hi, Jennie, I need help. I recently got the app and earned over $50 dollars yesterday from doing offers and store extras and I have yet to see my money. The help center and FAQ says it should of shown up with within 24 hours, but obviously that didn’t happen. I can’t redeem my PayPal money because all of it is still pending. I desperately need that money by tomorrow (I have to pay a fee on eBay) and I’m short! Please help ASAP!
Jennie says
Hi Addison~ I would love to help you, but unfortunately I’m not able to. Your best bet would be to contact Ibotta directly. Have you tried their Facebook page? They are usually quite fast to respond there.
keysha says
signed up a friend, and it does not show up on my account …should have earned my fun in the sun2 bonus with the sign up, but not seeing anything
Jennie says
Hi Keysha~ I would recommend contacting Ibotta directly and they should be able to look into it for you. ๐
Brittany says
Dos anyone know how to redeem the money you earn from the surveys and posts on Facebook?
vianey says
im sorry for not being more clear. wat i ment was that when applying for paypal should i link my debit card or bank account to it?
Jennie says
Oh gotcha. ๐ I personally have my bank account linked. ๐
vianey says
i dont have a paypal account. whats the best option….should i link it to my bank account or debit card?
Jennie says
Unfortunately you have to have Paypal in order to work with iBotta.
Shani says
Vianey, it’s easy to open a paypal acct., and with that you simply register your debit card, credit card, or bank account and link it up that way thru paypal.
Sarah says
What if you need to return a product but already submitted to Ibotta? Do they penalize you?
Tabitha Ford says
I tried to redeem my money and it just sends me to the list of stores. it says I have 10.00 pending and it wont let me redeem it. please help
Jennie says
Hi Tabitha…have you tried contacting iBotta directly? I would suggest trying them on their Facebook page if you have an account. I’ve heard they are pretty responsive there. I’m not sure why it will not allow you to redeem. It sounds like a bug with their system or something.
Bani Bobb says
I just started using ibotta and love it. In order to redeem money you need to click on withdraw, then follow the prompts to transfer your funds to your Pay Pal account.
paloma says
How long is it supposed to take for the money to enter your PayPal account?
Jennie says
It is usually immediate for me. ๐
chandra says
I notice I only have anywhere from 15-30 items at anytime to choose from. Does anyone ever hear of them adding more items?? So far it has been great, just want more added!!
Thanks

Jennifer Smith says
Hi all. I am just wondering what tablets will work for these Apps? I don’t have a smartphone, but I am looking to buy a tablet (knowing which tablets will work with this program might sway my final purchase decision). Also, I saw a couple comments that said you have to scan the bar-code in the store; does that mean I have to have internet to do that? I am not very tech savvy. Thanks!
Jennie says
Hi Jennifer~ You will need your tablet to be able to connect to the internet and you’ll also want to make sure that you can take pictures with it so you can scan UPCs and take pictures of your receipts. I hope that helps. ๐
Ann says
Can you explain again how to do this with a 2nd generation ipad? I don’t understand how it works, because not very many retailers are showing up on my shopping list.
Ashli Schultz says
Hi. I added two offers on Th. night, and went back last night to scan them and only one was there. Did anybody else’s Eggland’s Best offer disappear?
Dina says
Ashli, yes my Eggland’s Best offer dissappeared Friday morning too. When I looked Thursday night I had 19 of my offers in my shopping list say the last day to redeem was Thursday. So Friday morning all of them were gone. I didn’t look to see which were supposed to be left but many folks say that even ones that were not supposed to expire that night did as well.
Ashley says
How come I don’t get all the offers that you mention on here (i.e. the Capri Suns in the Safeway ad this week)???
Thanks ๐
Jennie says
Ashley~ Offers will vary a little from person to person.
suzi says
If I buy 4 items will that redeem as 4 items too? Say. $1 so it will be $4?
Jennie says
Each offer can be redeemed only once. ๐
suzi says
so if i bought 4 same item in 1 transaction that means i can only redeem 1 item?
Jennie says
Yes that is correct.
Barb says
Just to make sure Im not cukoo, I can buy three or four things and scan one receipt into the system, am I right? Im off to buy cold medicine so I want to be sure….
Jennie says
Yes, that is my understanding Barb. I’ve actually only done one at a time, but I’m quite sure that if you have more than one item on your receipt you are fine…just as long as they are different items and not multiple of the same item.
sheila says
You’re right. I haven’t redeemed my first offer yet. I will on Friday. Sorry for being confused and thank you Jennie for all the work you do!
Jennie says
You bet! ๐ Glad we got it sorted out!
sheila says
I didn’t get my $5 credit either, and I was very careful with going through the link and signing up. I have read a lot of comments about people not getting theirs and Customer Service not being any help.
Jennie says
Sheila if you signed up through the link in this post AND have redeemed your first offer the $5 WILL show up on your account. If you are still having trouble, please contact me directly and I will check my sign-up records.
Anna says
Did you redeem your first offer? My $5 showed up on my account as soon as I did.
Jennie says
Sheila~ I just checked my records and show that you downloaded the app at 1:00pm this afternoon. If that is the case, I’m guessing you have not yet redeemed your first offer and had it approved…so your $5 will not yet show on your account.
Beth says
Is the $5 offer still good? It seems like the links are all linked back to this post. Am I missing something?
Jennie says
Yes it is Beth. If you click on any of the links in this post from your phone (or your computer) it will take you to the page you need to download the app (or register before you download) and get you and get you your $5.
Kimberly says
I followed the link on my iPad and I have redeemed 5 offers and have not received the $5 sign up credit.. Is it still a valid offer?
Jennie says
Hi Kimberly~ This is their most recent new user bonus: https://www.bargainblessings.com/new-ibotta-offers-new-users-and-earn-up-to-10-in-free-money/ So, I think you would have received something. You may want to contact Ibotta through their contact page to see if they can look into what the issue is. Here is a link to that: https://ibotta.com/contact
Faith says
I can’t wait to try this! Love that you can stack the refund with a paper coupon!
Leah says
For some reason it’s failing to post to Facebook when it had been working just fine. Any tips??
Karen says
Mine is failing to post to Facebook also. Previously it had been fine.
Merili says
I have to say, this is kinda fun.
Merili says
I’m excited for this!
Jennifer says
I understand you have to go through PayPal but will PayPal charge you for receiving money from Ibotta? Thanks. I don’t use it either.
Jennie says
Great question. ๐ Here is Ibotta’s answer: Once youโve redeemed offers totaling $5 or more, Ibotta lets you transfer your earnings directly to your PayPal account. Choose “Withdraw Cash” from the main menu of the app, then select “Get My Cash” to link Ibotta to your PayPal account.
If you donโt already have a PayPal account, you can set one up for free at http://www.paypal.com. Money in your PayPal account can be transferred to any bank account, sent to other PayPal users, or loaded onto a debit card.
Please note that it is very important to verify your PayPal account by following the steps emailed to you from PayPal. Ibotta never collects a fee for transferring money into your account, but if the account remains unverified at the time of transfer, PayPal will collect a small fee for the transaction and you will not receive the entire amount owed to you. Because we always want you to receive the entire amount you worked to earn, please ensure your account is verified.
Kim says
I only have a few of these stores on my list! How do I get cvs and rite aid? I was trying to upload a receipt and those stores are not on my list on my app! Please help!
Jennie says
Here is what Ibotta says about that issue Kim. Does this help you at all? “If you are using an iPod 4th generation or iPad 2, you won’t see all retailers. Some retailers use text strings for their receipts and the only way for us to know whether you have purchased the correct product is for you to scan the item in the store prior to your purchase. The iPod 4th generation and iPad 2 do not support this feature, but will still be able to upload receipts from all the retailers listed under the “Shopping List” section on that device.”
Jenn says
So we can only use the stores that show up on our list? Bummer. I just bought several items from King Soopers, and I just discovered that’s not on my list.
Shannon says
This looks like a very cool app! One question… By the savings just being added to a PayPal account, does that mean you just have a credit there to spend online, or is there a way to get this money back as cash? I just don’t use PayPal very often ๐ Thanks!!!
Jennie says
Shannon~ Once the money is in your Paypal account you can transfer it into your bank account. ๐
Amber says
Can you use a manufacturer’s coupon with the offers?
Jennie says
Yes, you can Amber! ๐
regina says
i signed up the other day and have claimed a few purchases but i never got my $5 credit ๐
Jennie says
Regina~ Did you make sure to sign-up through the link in this post?
Dina says
I noticed they are a Denver based company which is pretty cool!
Jennie says
Yepp…I agree! ๐
Julie M says
Do you know if this works for Android tablets? My tablet is much “smarter” than my Android phone. I think my phone would go on strike if I tried to use this App on it. Thanks!
Jennie says
I asked a friend to test it out on her tablet and she said it does Julie. ๐
Julie M says
Yeah! Thanks for checking. I can have the kids take care of this for me. I see a new homeschool subject in our future…. ๐ Shall we call it consumer economics?
Jennie says
Fantastic idea! ๐
Julie M says
Also, a couple of questions that I just can’t figure out. Do you have to actually scan the bar-code then purchase the product to get any credit at all? Also, how soon does the $5 bonus show up?
Jennie says
You actually take a picture of your receipt once you’ve purchased the item. This video also helps explain in: https://vimeo.com/51179012 The $5 bonus will show up after you submit your first receipt.
