A few weeks ago I shared will you all that I would be testing out Walmart Family Mobile and I promised to let you know what I thought about it. Did it keep up with my busy Orlando vacation/work trip? You’re about to find out! 🙂
To recap, I’m pretty over paying $125 per month to Verizon for my limited single line service. My contract with them ended earlier this year so I’m looking for a new, more affordable option that still allows me to stay connected.
I am really excited about the pricing of the service that Walmart Family Mobile offers and I love the fact that it is contract free. I think that these are two great features to help families to save. I also think it makes the service perfect if you have a teen or a pre-teen that you’ve been wanting to get a phone for.
Walmart currently offers two types of plans on Rollback:
$39.88 for unlimited talk, text and web
$29.88 unlimited talk and text
Again, neither of these plans require a contract so there is no commitment! They also offer online account management on the My Family Mobile website,
The phone prices are not bad either with Concord phones on Rollback for $79.88 (was $99.88) and MyTouch devices for $129.88 (was $149.88).
One of my biggest priorities for the new phone and service was for it to keep up with my need to stay connected with the Bargain Blessings team back in Colorado while I was away. I’m happy to report that it totally did! The service worked great and I loved that it offered me a variety of ways to connect – talk, text, web. Not only that but it was really nice to not have to worry about going over my allowed usage since everything is unlimited.
I did notice that the download speed was sometimes a little on the slow side, but for the over $85 per month savings I think that is something I’d be willing to deal with.
I also used the phone to snap some pictures to remember the trip by and as you can see from above they turned out great! It was super easy to upload my photos to Facebook and also to text them to family and friends. Hey, it isn’t every day that I get a view like this out my window – I had to share while I could. 😉
Overall, I am super happy with my new phone and the new service. If it can keep up with me on a busy vacation, I know it will allow me to stay connect while back home in Colorado!
Have you tried out Walmart Family Mobile yet? Do you think you’ll check out now? I’d love to hear what you think in the comments section!

I used Family Mobile happily for three years. My son and I had their service together. He wanted a phone (at 18 years old). The agreement we had was he paid for our phones and he stayed working. As luck has it, he lost his job so the phone needed to be shut off. He called and told the person he would be discontinuing the service. The end? No. Family Mobile charged me 179.00. For what? I have no idea. It is a PREPAID SERVICE! I told them I’d see them in court! Never heard another thing from them. I bought another phone with another service (I had plans on starting by myself with Family Mobile). Can you answer me why they would do this?

What carrier network does it use? I have been long time Sprint customer but now can’t get service in my home with them and they can’t figure out why. I am looking for no contract but it can’t run on the Sprint network or i will be having same issues.

They are on T-Mobile’s network. 🙂

I use the exact same phone and the service and I love it. I just wish the phone had bigger key pad and screen but everything else is great. No surprise bills to worry about.

I have been using this plan for over a year now. I switched from At&T’s prepaid plan because it was cheaper. I was given a T-Mobile phone(Galaxy S2) by a friend, so my phone was free. I do notice a few spots that I don’t have service, and it’s frustrating. BUT, it’s not enough to say I’m unhappy with the service. I recommend this plan to all my friends and family. You can’t beat it. Even if you pay full price for the phone( $450 for the Galaxy S3)..you will still end up paying less money in the long run. I compare this to getting a free phone through T-Mobile and being on the contract rates. I only wish the rates would have been this cheap when I first signed up! I currently pay $62/mo- unlimited calls, texts, and up to 3GB of data. Another plus…I was able to keep my number!

I used to have this service. I liked it a lot, but i just had the cheap 40.00 dollar phone. Now i have the king soopers i-wireless phone service. You earn free minutes with every purchase you make at king soopers…I only spent 50,00 dollars on the phone, which is a touch screen and-droid phone. So the best part for me is not having to pay anything for phone service, because my family shops at King Soopers so much. The worst part is if I go out of state I don’t have any service. I know the phone is on the sprint network so it might just be ware i travel (springer,NM).

So does the bill come out to be $39.88 per month, or are there other fees/charges?

Thanks for the update! I was just telling my husband about this the other day. We are with Verizon and feel we are paying too much for what we are getting as well. Which phone did you choose for yourself?
Jennie says
Of course! Yeah, I definitely think it is worth checking out. I actually didn’t get to choose my phone, but I got the Concord. 🙂
