I posted a few days ago about the $2 Tide Coupon that we received in today’s Newspaper. Since this coupon does not list any size exclusions it seemed that it could be used on travel sized Tide products, but unfortunately P&G has since informed us otherwise on their Facebook Wall. 🙁 Here is the new information that they provided:
The coupon does not have a size restriction and is valid on all Tide detergent that is distributed by Procter & Gamble. The single use packets are not distributed by P&G and therefore the store reserves the right to choose not to accept the coupon on that item. I hope this helps with any confusion.
We license the Tide name and actual product to another company (in this case Cotton Buds) to distribute one use packets of the product. It is actually Tide in the package but it is distributed by the other company. Since that product isn’t distributed by P&G the stores reserve the right to deny a manufacturer’s coupon on that product. I hope this helps.
I apologize that I did not know about this before posting this deal and for the confusion. Who would have thought that a technicality like this would cause so much hassle?!? I’m not exactly sure why Tide didn’t just place a travel size exclusion on this coupon, but unfortunately it will not work as we had originally intended. I’m very sorry to any of you who may have driven to the store only to not be able to get in on this deal as I do try my very best to ensure that you are getting accurate information here on Bargain Blessings.

I was able to do this, actually using 12 of the coupons. Thankfully, my local WalMart allowed the coupon. I wouldn’t of guessed to look at if P+G made the single packs, I assumed that they did. It’s not really too easy of a thing to check.

where does it say the store will get reimbursed? I dont see it… why would p&g reimburse for a product they dont distribute?
Hazel says
It was just a general question on reimbursement, not specific to this deal.

Hit the return key accidentally.
I just used this scenario since it was there. I’m just wondering if a store gets reimbursed on the coupon value or the cost of the item in the store?
Jennie says
Hazel~ When a coupon is over the amount of an item the store will still get reimbursed the full amount. 🙂

10-4, that’s what my mind was telling me but I wanted the solid scoop.
I had a little issue with a register person yesterday and I discovered she likes to make things up when she doesn’t know the answer. I was laughing hysterically on the inside and just let her continue because it was just so blasted funny. I even got a tad ornery and posed inane questions to her just to see what nonsense she came up with.
I know, tsk tsk on me. (But boy o boy what an absurd hoot!)
Thanks much, enjoy the sunshine!

LOL…You just have to love those types of cashiers. 🙂 I wish I could have been there to see it. Good for you for staying light-hearted about it!

Tide didnt say it COULDNT be used on the trial size…that decision is left up to the store’s discretion! They also stated that IF this coupon was to be used on the trial size…the stores WOULD be reimbursed the $2 still! I personally use these high value coupons on the larger size bottles…just some more info for those who would rather use it on the trial size!

@Hazel they would probably get $2 as they have plenty of non-coupon regular tide purchases as well as travel size purchases in their system which could match up with the $2 coupon
Also I have seen other types of mini tide in the travel section at Target such as a mini bottle of tide (similar to the mini bottle of clorox). It was only at one Target that I saw it at but it might be a possibility as it could be distributed by P&G instead.

General question … if this deal did go thru and Wal*Mart sent the coupon off for reimbursement, would Wal*Mart get the $2.00 coupon value (plus the .08) or would they just get .97?
I think I know the answer but would like to be sure.
Thanks Jennie – have a blessed day out there!

That is crazy how it works about the trial size!

Just reading this update, but earlier today I went to Walmart and grab the travel Tide and they accepted the coupon for that product without any problem. I did not know it wasnt a ‘legal’ deal, Sorry Walmart 🙁 Thanks for the update for this coupon and product, I have seen a lot of great buys for Tide and this coupon at Walgreens I believe?
