One of my favorite things about shopping smart and stretching my budget is how it has allowed me to give back in a way that I never would have been able to do before.
This is a picture that reader Hazel shared with us of what she was able to do for National Stamp Out Hunger Day last year! She worked really hard many months to accumulate everything through couponing and as a result was able to bless many families!
As I shared with you in my Odwalla Simple Service Project post, 1 in 6 Americans are facing hunger. That is nearly 49 million people in our country, including more that 16 million children are living with empty tummies. 🙁
This Saturday, May 11th is the 21st annual Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive. Letter carriers across the country, in partnership with the U.S. Postal Service will be collecting food for families in need. Here is all you need to participate:
1. Collect and bag non-perishable food items.
2. Place your bags by your mailbox on Saturday, May 11th for your letter carrier to pick-up and deliver to a local food bank of pantry.
It just doesn’t get much easier than that! I hope you will all join me this weekend to help our neighbors and friends. If you leave bags out this weekend, please take a moment to send me a quick picture at jennie (at) bargainblessings.com. I’d love to do a post to share what we’ve all been able to do together!
