Phew, it was quite the week in the grocery world. Hubbie and I decided to get a little creative with the picture as you can see. Here is how I did:
King Soopers: I had a rain-check for the Smart Balance eggs, so those were all FREE! Guess we will be eating a lot of eggs during the next two weeks! I also got a bunch of Cover Girl Nail Polish (a bit of a splurge at .70 each) and Shaving Cream as part of the P&G promo. my store didn’t stock the Old Spice, so I missed out on that deal. I also got some Tostios chips to go with our Hot Taco Dip tonight and a gallon of milk, carrots and a parsnip that were not included in the picture. I spent a total of $19.63 at King Soopers.
Sprouts: I we really impressed with the weekend deals at Sprouts! I got 3lbs of Granola for $3, 3 bottles of coconut nectar, 10lbs of potatoes, and 3 pineapples for $11!
Sunflower: I stocked up on a bunch of grapefruit for $1.40!
Safeway: Yeah, about Safeway…so what happened is I printed off all the coupons I could from our two computers and pulled out all my blinkies that I had left over from the last big cereal promotion at King Soopers. When I got to the store I grouped all my coupons into my separate transactions and realized that I would need to do 15 transactions to use all my coupons…what to do, what to do. Just then, my favorite store manager walked by and I checked with him to see if there would be any issues doing that many transactions. He had no problem, so off I went to grab another cart to load up. Now, before anyone bites my head off…yes, I will be donating almost all of this cereal, and no I didn’t clear the shelves…there was lots and lots left for everyone else. Normally I’d say that 60 boxes of cereal is just a tad excessive, but I figure, if I can get it for FREE and help others with it…why let the coupons go to waste? The manager was so kind to load it all up in gigantic trash bags and help me pile it in my car. I also got 6 boxes of granola bars, four bags of Wacky- Mac, and an Ace Bandage. After all was said and done I made $4.01.
This Week’s Menu:
Hot Taco Dip
Waffles
Shepards Pie
Breakfast Casserole
Tuna Casserole

LOL! Trust me, DH suggested it…but the cereal house wasn't exactly the most stable structure…our dogs are so little it would have burried them! 🙂

Totally cool shopping, stocking, and donating. You should have done a video of it with a little dog running out of the house of cereal, that would have been so funny.

Amanda~ My King Soopers didn't carry the eggs, so I had to special order them. I thought they were going to be $1.34 too, but they rang up as $1.99 each, so when she used my rain-check it brought them down to $1, making them free after the .50 coupon. I haver permission from my store manager to use more than three coupons, but when I shop at a store that does go by that rule, I just break it up in to separate transactions.
🙂

How did you manage to get free Smart Balance eggs at King Soopers? When they were on sale here, it was for 1.34. The coupon was for .50/1 (doubles to $1) so, eggs for .34 – which is a great price, so I'm not complaining. Also, our King Soopers only lets you use 3 like coupons at a time. I also got a raincheck for the eggs, but when they came in stock, I could only buy 3 with the coupon – and they were not free.

Hi Emily,
I do not believe there is a point where a couponer is "taking advantage" of the store or the manufacturer. Both stores and manufacturers choose to have good sales and deals for a reason (to draw consumers to their store/product). As long as consumers are using coupons appropriately and legally the stores and the manufacturers benefit from the product exposure and sale of other products in their stores. As you might know, there are limits placed on the number of coupons that are available and the manufacturer is capable of setting those limits at whatever they determine is appropriate.
I'm not exactly sure what you mean with your second question, but I will try to answer the best I can. Like I mentioned in my post the cereal is not intended for for my stockpile, so I'm not sure what you mean by "excessive". Ultimately, my husband and I know that Christ is our one and only provider and we believe that God blesses those who are egger to put the resources he has blessed them with to good use. Stockpiling is not something we do out of fear for God not providing. Rather, it is being wise about stocking up on products when they are at the lowest price possible so we can prevent having to pay a higher price when the item is out of season/it's sales cycle. Proverbs 6 talks about how we are to "store provisions in the summer and gather our food at harvest". In my mind stockpiling is just that, being wise about storing provisions for our families.

Wow, I admire you for going through all that work so that you can donate cereal to the food bank. However, at what point do think you would be taking advantage of the grocery stores and cereal companies? (If you are getting it for free they are losing money.) Also you have Matthew 6:31 on your frontpage. Do you think that excessive stockpiling goes against that verse?

My husband laughed at my 12 boxes too! (Oh, and I made sure I had a few Kelloggs boxes with the $5 breakfast coupon books so I can go back and get more today!) You are my new Savings Hero!!!!

Love the picture!
When I came home with 12 boxes, my hubby thought I was a little nuts. I'll have to show him your pile 🙂

Lindsey~ One thing that I had to constantly remind myself when I first started is that I couldn't compare my savings to the savings of others…all that mattered is that I was saving and I was getting better at it every day! Just keep taking those baby steps and you'll get there! 🙂

It's almost discouraging to see how well other people do with this!! I can't wait for the next Couponing 101 class because apparently I'm not doing nearly what I could. 🙁
