I know that some of you are already getting a jump-start on preparing your 2012 taxes and I’ve receive a few e-mails asking if I know of any free resources.
I just got word that Turbo Tax will again be offering their FREE edition of their software that will guide you through your return, check for errors, and is guaranteed to be accurate. It also includes one FREE federal eFile.
This system should work great if you have a pretty simple return this year. It also has over 25,000 reviews with an average 4-1/2 out of 5 star rating. It is also a nice option for getting an idea of how much you will get back or owe while you wait for documents or a meeting with your CPA. 😉 If you have a more complicated return and want to use Turbo Tax, they also have options for you too.
To get started just create your log-in information and they will send you a conformation e-mail. You will then be able to review their options and choose the one that is best for your return.

If any of you have a small side business, but are capable of handling your return on your own through software like this, TaxAct.com will still let you do a schedule C for free with your return. In the past, Turbo Tax would not. I have not verified both this year, but switched to TaxAct a few years ago for this reason.
