Yay for coupon policies! I have to take a moment to say way to go to Safeway for updating your coupon policy. Not only does it make it easier for the stores, but it also makes it much easier for us shoppers too!
With that said, I am not excited about 100% of what is in this policy, but there are some really exciting things too! Here we go…
Manufacturer and Store Coupons:
1. Coupons are redeemable only by a customer purchasing the specific brands and product(s) stated on the coupon, with the face value of the coupon deducted from your retail or club card price.
2. Coupons must be for products sold at Safeway and coupons must be presented at the time of the transaction.
3. Coupons are subject to advertised offer limitations and all limitations and restrictions on coupon.
4. Coupons cannot be applied against the free item received in any offer where a customer buys one or more items to get one or more items free. *Bummer
5. Coupon amount may be reduced so that any combined discounts and coupons do not exceed the value of the item. See number 12 below.
6. Coupons have no cash value.
7. Accepted coupons must be Manufacturer or Safeway store issued coupons.
8. Safeway will accept valid manufacturer coupons that display another retailer’s logo or name. *YAY for this one! This means no more trouble with manufacturer coupons with a Target logo!
9. Safeway will accept valid Catalina manufacturer coupons that are issued to a customer by another retailer. *This is HUGE! I wonder if they will accept Register Rewards from Walgreens?!?
10. The coupon must have an expiration date and be presented within valid dates.
11. Coupons are void if they appear distorted or blurry, are altered in any way or copied.
12. The transaction amount may not fall below zero value, or go negative, meaning we will not give the customer money back.
13. All sales taxes are paid by the customer at the full value of the item.
14. All bottle deposits on the purchased and free items are paid by the customer.
15. Safeway reserves the right to refuse any coupons at its discretion.
Internet Printed Coupons:
16. We gladly accept internet printed coupons. The same manufacturer and store coupon rules above apply to all internet printed coupons.
17. Internet printed coupons must scan at checkout.
18. Internet printed coupons must have serial numbers and follow an industry-standard format.
19. Manufacturer internet printed coupons must clearly indicate that they are a manufacturer coupon and have a valid manufacture address on the printed coupon.
20. We will not accept “free product” internet printed manufacturer coupons.
Load to Card Club Coupons:
21. Internet and digital coupons that have been electronically loaded to a Safeway Club Card are automatically redeemed at the time of purchase after the club card number has been entered. All other coupon policies above apply to electronic coupons that are loaded to a club card.
Doubling of Coupons:
22. Check with your local store regarding ‘double coupon’ advertised promotions where customers will receive double the coupon face value off the regular or club card price up to the advertised limit. Not all locations offer double coupon promotions. Limitations and restrictions for double coupon promotions may change at any time. Changes will be posted in store only.
Coupon Stacking: (Hawaii stores only)
23. Safeway does not allow a customer to redeem two or more manufacturer coupons against the same item in a single transaction.
24. Coupon stacking policies for manufacturer coupons apply to paper and electronic coupons that have been loaded to a club card. *Bummer for Hawaii stores!
25. If a customer presents two coupons for the same item in a single transaction, Safeway will only accept the first coupon to be applied in the system.
Rainchecks:
26. Rainchecks expire 90 days from the date issued and are accepted at any Safeway store.
27. We reserve the right to limit Rainchecks quantities based on product availability and advertised limits.
28. Rainchecks can be written for a limit of no more than 3 items unless otherwise stated in the advertisement.
We may change this policy at any time. All coupon redemptions are subject to the policy in effect at time of redemption. Policy changes may not be advertised. The current policy will be posted at the customer service area in each store.
Revision Date: 6/7/2010
I very highly suggest printing off a copy of this policy and brining it with you to the store! You can go HERE to access it on Safeway’s website.

I just checked Safeway’s coupon policy on their website to double check with this post (since it was 2 years ago) – and it looks like Safeway no longer will accept RRs. Is that true in your experience? I got all excited the other day…
Jennie says
Yep…this is an old one Leah. 🙂 You can always look under the “Getting Started” tab and then “Coupon Policies” for the most recent information.

Thanks Jennie!

Andrea~ Ugh. That is frustrating. I cannot believe that even after you showed him the coupon policy he still gave you a hard time. I would wait to see what corportate says…othwise I would just return and re-buy everything on another day (a pain…I know). Sometimes their eCoupon systems crash and the store doesn't know it. 🙁
Andrea says
GRRRRR! So, I was all excited yesterday b/c I went to Safeway and used my RR's along with my ecoupons and IP's and they went through just fine! So, today I went and used my Mom's card loaded with ecoupons along with my IP's. The register did not take my ecoupons!! I talked with the manager and he said that they are no longer allowing you to stack an ecoupon with an IP or MQ!! I showed him the new coupon policy and he said that the system is programmed to only take one or the other (the one with highest vaule). I called the corporate office, and they are looking into it (was on hold FOREVER and they still couldn't give me an answer!!) Anyone else having this problem or have any advice on dealing with this?

BeeBelle~ KS does not have a published policy, but you should be able to get one if you e-mail them.

Any idea where to find a King Sooper's policy? My checker today *tried* to tell me they can't take printable coupons at all, which I know isn't true. He asked and found out he was wrong. He did say they aren't allowed to take any manufacturer's coupons that have another store's name printed on them, but I didn't need to question that one.

Just got back from Safeway in Fort Collins and used a $8 RR from last week. Worked beautifully! It scanned fine, but I was in the self check lanes and so the cashier had to come approve it for me. This is fantastic!!! The Walgreens I usually go to is right next to Safeway 🙂
*~*~*Bargain Blessings*~*~* says
Amy~ No, it doesn't include buy x, get y coupons. 🙂
Sandra~ Yes, you can use both…as long as you don't live in HI.
Anon~ The RRs are not going to scan at Safeway, they are not coded like a normal coupon. They will need to be input manually by the cashier.
Andrea~ Make sure to print out the policy and bring it with you to Safeway. It clearly states they will accept catalina MQs from other stores…which is exatly what a RR is. Remember that it states it is a MQ right on the top of the RR.
LOL…Walgreens doesn't even know their own coupon policy for the most part, so we can't expect them to have any clue about Safeway's policy…or the fact that RRs are manufacturer coupons. Sorry, that is just so typical of a Walgreens manager to say something like that. I just had to have a little giggle. 🙂
I will be going to Safeway to use my RRs this weekend and will let you all know how it goes!
Andrea says
Can anyone confirm which Safeway stores in Denver are taking WAGS RRs? Mine didn't know anything about it, and the manager at my WAGS said Safeway should NOT be taking them even though I told her it is listed on their website. I'm so confused!!

I gave my cashier at Safeway a RR from WAG and it wouldn't scan. I live in a little town, so maybe they're not quite updated yet, but I'm hoping they'll work in the future!
Andrea says
Sandra-Yes!! I tried this last week with the Hamburger Helper! I had 2 different coupons loaded onto my card, and a paper coupon-paid .17/box!!!! 🙂

Not sure I understand the Load to card club coupons. Say I load a $1coupon to my safeway card for Wheaties, can I use a paper coupon for $1 for Wheaties, giving me a total of $2 off?

Question on #20: Does that include Buy x and get y free? Or is that just talking about free products without buying anything else? For example, the Nabisco facebook coupons are for a free pkg of cookies when you buy another pkg of cookies and milk. Would they not accept this coupon?
*~*Tammy*~* says
WOW!!! Seriously!!! I just woohooed to my husband with that glazed look in my eye!!!
Amy says
This made me realize I have never actually read King Sooper's coupon policy, and now I'm curious. Does anybody know where I can find that? I couldn't find it on their web site, but maybe I'm just missing it.
Amy says
Well, I might actually start doing more Walgreens shopping now if I know I can use the RR elsewhere! And it's great to know I can use manufacturer coupons with Target or King Soopers logos on them. I have always wondered about that.
So if something is on sale BOGO, then this means we can not also use a BOGO coupon to get both items for free?
Thanks for sharing this!

My Albertson will also take rewards from walgreens safeway and ks
Tori says
Seriously? They will take a catalina from KS or WAG?! I'm so excited! I love SW best anyway, get my best deals there . . . now I can use my CAT/RR there too! They will get even more of my business b/c of this.
