Neilsen Homescan is now accepting new members without Land Lines! This is offer we had to apply for since we don’t have a house phone. Hopefully it will allow more of you to participate. If you do not have a land line and would like to apply go through this link. If you do have a land line you can go through this link.
For those of you who have little ones in your home, check out the idea that reader Sue cooked up:
Hey Jennie! I just wanted to say thanks for letting me know about Neilsen Homescan. I homeschool our four children and this has become a fun learning tool for my family. They now fight over who gets to scan the groceries when I get home from the store. I love it because it teaches them how much food really costs and how much money can be saved by using coupons and shopping smart. Thank you once again!
If you are accepted as a panel member, the National Consumer Panel will provide you with a hand-held scanner. Each time you or members of your household shop, you will use the scanner to scan the bar-codes on your purchases. Then, once per week you transmit your purchase information to Nielsen by placing the scanner in it’s base and hitting “transmit”….it is super easy.
In exchange for transmitting your purchase information, you’ll earn gift points that are redeemable for name-brand merchandise, including electronics equipment, jewelry, household items, toys, and more! You will also earn entries into their many exciting sweepstakes.

I got accepted as a member about a month ago. It’s really easy, plus I’m hoping to earn enough points for a portable DVD player!

Nice Lorie…I’m glad to hear you like it!

Melissa,
They will contact you when an opening comes up. I did this for a while, but found it was way too time consuming.

Every time there is a post about signing up for Neilsen I submit my info and get the following return message:
“Thank you for your interest in the National Consumer Panel.
Our records indicate that you or someone in your household has already registered with the National Consumer Panel in the past. Unfortunately, we are unable to process your request.”
However, I’ve never been officially confirmed as a panel member, just that I’ve registered. Is there anything else I can do to become a member or will they just contact me if I qualify?

My husbands cell phone is a Utah number…do you think that will matter?
Jennie says
Hm. Good question…I don’t think so though…it shouldn’t.
