As most of you know, frugal living extends far beyond couponing and groceries. For me this means saving as much as possible in as many areas as possible while at the same time improving our quality of life.
One of the things that we do a few times per year is review our expenses. I literally take about 30 minuites to sit down and review every item that is coming out of our bank account. After doing that I set out on a mission to reduce those expenses as much as possible. One of the areas that I’ve been most successful in doing this is our cable bill. I’m not going to lie, I LOVE my Weather Channel, TLC, HGTV, and the Food Network. πΒ For me those are luxuries that I’m not currently willing to give up…so, I make sure that I enjoy that luxury at the best price possible. The best way that I’ve found to do this is to be willing to be flexible with what service provider we are with. I have no problem switching to a company that provides a better value for our hard earned money!
It is that time of year again and I am just starting to review our bills. One of the companies that I plan to check into is DirecTV. We have a few friends who use their service and are pretty happy with it and the prices. At first look at their website, I’m pretty encouraged by their prices compared to our current Comcast bill. They are currently offering free instaltion, free HD or DVR receiver, and free shipping for the equiptment when signing up through their website. One of the packages also comes with free NFL Sunday ticket for 5 months…I think hubby will be excited about that part.
Do any of you currently have DirecTV? I’d love to hear what you think!

Lori~ We decided to stick with Comcast. I called and they were able to beat the Direct TV price by putting us on a better promotion. π

We got rid of cable. We do have the internet so we just use Netflix. We have a PS3 so we can watch Netflix on our regular tv. There are plenty of great old and new cartoons for my kids. And, there are tons of television series and movies for us. All for around $15 per month plus no commercials.

Have you talked to comcast’s retention department? We have comcast too, but only have their internet.
Originally we had internet and cable, but it cost way too much, so I switched it to just internet, and found out too late ( due to a rep’s misinformation) that they charged an extra $12/month for having it alone.
However, another very helpful rep was able to get me basic cable at a promotion rate of $10/month, and the internet at $20/month on another promotion.
She saved me a ton of money, and all because I expressed my dissatisfaction with their prices!

Yep! I actually talk to Comcast’s retention deaprtment all of the time…best department to talk to! π

We have direct tv and even had it in Cali before we moved here. We just revamped our service by cancelling our old service and resigning up at Sam’s Club. Don’t know if our membership helped us get a better deal, but hubby wanted one of the new receivers with HD for our basement where he does indeed love to watch his NFL Sunday ticket on our projector screen!

We did this a few months ago. Just make sure you do not enter into a contract. We looked at several companies and many of them had some sort of contract. You get their great price deal for 6-12 months then bam a sky-high bill for a year or two. We looked at bundles and seperate deals. For us the best deal we found was bundling our phone, cable, and internet.

I have DirectTV and love it! My mom reffered me and gotg $100 credit on her bill and so did I! It comes off $10 a month for the first $10 months. I also signed up to do the online billing and saved $5 for the first month I did it. If you need a referal let me know. π
