Regardless of what kind of party it is that you are hosting, it can be expensive as little costs add up quickly. Here are a few ideas to make your next event one that will not break the bank!
Host a joint party with a friend or neighbor.
Spit the cost of hosting a party by teaming up with another family. Not only will it save you money, it will also be a great opportunity to make new friends!
Think outside the box when it comes to party-shopping.
There are many opportunities throughout the year to do post-holiday shopping. During post-holiday sales stores mark down many items that can be used year-round. Take advantage of these sales to stock up on paper plates, napkins and other household supplies that can be used on parties throughout the year.
Make it a potluck party.
Not only do potlucks take the pressure off of the host for having to create a bunch of different dishes, but it also helps take some of the financial pressure off. Party food can be expensive. This is especially true if you do not plan far enough ahead of time to allow yourself time to stock-up on good deals as they roll out.
Use online invitations.
Consider skipping the formal invitations and opt for a free method of inviting your guests such as Evite where you can create your own custom online invite, send it out and track the responses for free!
Apply to host a House Party.
House Party is an online service that matches companies hoping to promote their product with consumers that are willing to host a party using freebies provided to them by the company. This can be a great way to get some extra items for your party for free! I’ve personally hosted several parties through House Party and it is always a fun reason to get friends and family together!

I recently threw a birthday party for both of my boys. Even though their birthdays are a couple months apart I split the time and made it a joint party. I didn’t want a whole bunch of kids in my house, so we opted for doing something outside. Our church has a couple of BIG water slides and a jump house that we use for various different activities throughout the year and they were happy to let me borrow them for the day. I stock up on cups, plates, plastic silverware, plastic tablecloths and clear goodie bags throughout the year so they are available whenever I need them. (The key is to buy everything in pretty generic colors… I try to buy everything either white or clear so it can match any ensemble.) Add some ice tea, hot dogs, a couple bags of chips, a few goodie bag items, a bag of Dollar store water balloons and we have a Great party! =) A fun thing I was able to find this year… At King Soopers they had their swim noodles and kites on clearance for 90% off, so I was able to pick up one of those for each kid. Total I spent $20 on a party for two boys!!!! Not too bad! =)
