I always tell people that when you coupon, you need to re-learn how to shop. Most of us make a list of things we need, go to the store and buy what is on the list. When you shop like this you are forced to pay the price the store has them marked. If you need that item, you do not really have much choice but to pay what the store is asking for that item. One of the keys to being a successful coupon shopper is to learn to stock up on items your family needs at there lowest price point. Stock up when you find the perfect sale, that pairs with a great coupon, many times you are able to get that item free or pennies on the dollar. Instead of buying one jar of peanut butter, go ahead and buy 6. You can now take those 6 jars of peanut butter home, put them in your pantry. Your pantry will soon be filled with items that you bought at their lowest price point. You now have the freedom to not buy peanut butter again till it is at a price you are willing to pay.
What tips do you have on getting extra newspapers and coupons?

Jessica,
How did you get the Denver Post subscription for $10 (please be specific if you reply to this!)? I've called before to see if they have some sort of discount for multiple subscriptions and they did not and did not seem at all willing to work with me. I pay $39 right now which is ok, but $10 would be WAY better!

FYI- I think you do spend a little more initially. After while it will amaze you what you can get for free/or nearly free. I've saved the most on health/beauty supplies over the last 3 months! Also,I called to check on the YES inserts. They are ONLY available to those who DO NOT receive the paper and they will not be the full offers in the paper. I think my Denver post runs me $36 a year for SatSun and I can pay it monthly. Also check stores/gas stations that sell the paper to see if they'll give you their extras. Many times they just need to give back the front page.

Hey Jessica,
If you call Denver Post, you can usually get a better deal on subscription. I pay $10 a year for thur-sun paper!!! Also, check out freecycle for people who may be willing to save coupons for you! Ask neighbors, too!
I made in my 2010 resolution to only spend $40 a week on groceries. It was hard the first few weeks, but we built a stockpile quickly and now it's so easy! The key is LOTS of coupons!!! If you're looking for a beef sale, check out Albertson's this week. It's 1.88 for 93% lean when you buy 5 or more pounds. That sale typically comes around every 2 months or so, so I buy enough to last me that long.

I'm fairly new to this whole couponing thing…and your post speaks exactly to the struggle I've been having. I've started buying two newspapers a week, but at $2 a pop, I don't want to buy too many more than that. Is it worth it to buy coupons on-line? Also, how do you get to a point where you can just stock up on a few items at a time…I still find that I need so many of the basics (meat, milk, bread, fruits & veggies, etc.) each week, that I can't JUST go out and buys 6 jars of pb, 3 pks. of tp, and 10 cans of soup for the week. So, do you kind of have to spend more in the beginning to develop a stock pile, and then just maintain?
I'd appreciate any help I can get here, because at this point I feel like I'm only saving a few bucks a week, which is something….but I want to do better than that!
