3-Ring Binders that are in good condition but tearing down the spine can be repaired with colorful duct tape. There are many patterns to choose from and the binder will last another year.

My best back to school tip originated when I was in middle school. Growing up we didn’t have much money, but I wanted to fit in with all my friends. So I would shop at Nordstrom, but I would always shop off the clearance rack as the seasons were changing. I would hang on to my ‘bargains’ until the next season so that I could dress fashionably. This tradition carries over to my boys even to this day. They are always well-dressed, but at a fraction of the cost! I have a closet full of wardrobes for them for at least the next 5 years!

My favorite back to school savings tip: Shop the penny and cent deals at stores like Staples and get paper and other products free with their rewards program. And stack Target coupons for school supplies with manufacturer’s coupons. I’ve gotten a lot of free and really cheap items this way.

This year, my best tip so far I found on momables.com for coming up w/ new lunch ideas for my kids. They are tired of the same old couple of kinds of sandwiches, etc. So now we are going to be trying the ‘bento box’ lunch idea–seperated containers filled w/ different stuff to get out of the sandwich rut!

My best back to school savings idea is that I’m always thinking and planning ahead. I buy the kids clothes when they are completely marked down and always buy ahead for the next year. It’s so easy to do this with all the basic items that you know they will be needing.

So my favorite back to school memories were always clothes shopping. In 6th grade I picked out what I thought was the perfect outfit for the 1st day of school. I had this totally grenade green outfit with matching green shoes. I did my hair special that day with spraying my bangs up high! ( oh yeah you know what I’m talking about) Now many years later looking back at that picture I just go “What was I thinking? And why did my mom let me out of the house looking that way!” Oh the things we do when we are young!
