I love to shop the markdown areas at the supermarket! I freeze so much anyways, that it doesn’t matter if it is close to the expiration date! Cheap milk is my favorite!
Sarah R says
My tip- When I make a meal, I try to think ahead another meal or two about how leftovers can be used. example: If I make a veggie soup one night, I use ingredients thinking about the chicken pot pie I’ll do the next night and use appropriate ingredients. The next night just add a thickener and chicken.
Also, when I have a full meals worth of left overs I sometimes put it in the freezer for a time when I don’t have time to cook and that saves me from having to use expensive convenience foods.

Sharing my favorite money saving tip:
I try to never ever waste left-over food. I do this by using storage containers to create my own microwaveable meals. Even if I don’t have even portions.
The trick is to make sure that when you put the portion into your tray, you squish it into a corner and make sure you leave room for the side(s). For example, if I made meatloaf tonight and had leftovers, I’d add that serving to the container and put it in the freezer. Then lets say I had left over rice the next night. I take the meatloaf out of the freezer and add the rice in another corner. If I have more than one portion, I start more than one tray. I use the disposable storage containers because they hold up well in the dishwasher and freezer for many servings and they are recyclable when they finally do wear out. Try it! You’ll be amazed at how much food you save.

My favorite money saving tip is to Menu Plan. I find if I plan out meal ideas for up to a month at a time I can really save money. I only buy what we need for those meals (other than great stock up deals). And with a months worth of ideas you can still work your meals around what is on sale.
And of course, sticking to your list. 🙂

My money saving tip is to make foods that you would spend a lot of money on. For instance, hummus is $4 or more for about 8oz. I can make 16oz for around $1 or less, depending on how cheap I get the garbanzo beans! It is super simple!
Sharon says
Would love a tried and true recipe! 🙂
Jessica says
1 can no salt garbanzo beans, drained and rinsed
1/4 C plain no fat greek yogurt
1/4 C lemon juice
1 tbsp ground parsley
1 tsp minced garlic
1/4 tsp ground cumin
1/4 tsp ground cayenne
Process in food prep until smooth. Can be stored for a week in fridge 🙂
Sharon says
Thank you! Can’t wait to try this!

The best money saving tip is to reduce the amount of times you eat out or grab fast food meals, snacks, or drinks. Set a limit to how many times you will do it per week or month and pocket the cash that you save. Packing a lunch or doing without that extra snack is healthier and better on the pocket book!.

I love to stack my coupons and buy a bunch of the same item during the save $10 for $75 spent deals at Safeway. Last week I purchased 10 tubs of All detergent on sale with my coupons for $7.99 each. Since I bought $75 worth of stuff I received a $10 good on my next purchase. This made each 150 oz. All only $6.99!!!

My favorite money saving tip: whenever there are freebies (whether you’ll use them or not) get the food/toiletries! Then keep tabs of your charitable contributions (I have a spreadsheet with prices and a picture of each dropoff). You can then write the donations off your federal taxes. Also keep an eye out for organizations that have State tax deductions (in Colorado there is the Denver Enterprise Zone tax credit that you can get 25% tax write off of monetary donations, and 12.5% off in-kind (all those freebies) donations). Check out the link for more info: https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/p526.pdf – it can save you lots and lots of money come next April!!!!
