This See You Shop Thursday story is my favorite so far this year. Why? Becuase it is not only a story of saving, but a story of giving back! Reader Hazel is going to be taking a trip to Iowa soon and all of these items are going with her…to donate to a food pantry! I know she has been working really hard since December to gather everything and it is just so incredible to think about all of the people that are going to be helped by it.
One of my favorite things about shopping smart and stretching my budget is how it has allowed me to give back in a way that I never would have been able to do before. It’s just pure awesomeness.
Did you know that 1 in 6 Americans are facing hunger? That is nearly 49 million people in our country, including more that 16 million children are living with empty tummies. 🙁
This Saturday, May 12th is the 20th annual Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive. Letter carriers across the country, in partnership with the U.S. Postal Service will be collecting food for families in need. Here is all you need to participate:
1. Collect and bag non-persidhable food items.
2. Place your bags by your mailbox on Saturday, May 12th for your letter carrier to pick-up and deliver to a local food bank of pantry.
It just doesn’t get much easier than that! I hope you will all join me this weekend to help our neighbors and friends. If you leave bags out this weekend, please take a moment to send me a quick picture at jennie (at) bargainblessings.com. I’d love to do a post to share what we’ve all been able to do together!

Greetings from Iowa!
Drop has been made and it was more than welcomed! They service 1700 people throughout the county so every little bit helps. Gotta say, it’s one of the most wonderful things I’ve ever been a part of. Many, many thanks to Bargain Blessings and all the posters and posterettes that post tips and deals all over the place. We CAN make a difference!
Moo!

Go Hazel! I think its incredibly wonderful that you took the time to share what you have learned by giving back. My husband and I donate items every so often – especially ones I got on a great special, but may not need/use. I truly believe in giving back to those and Hazel, this is an amazing feat! I know you didn’t expect the kudos, but you definitely deserve them. Many families will prosper from your generosity!

Nobody who has been with BB for any amount of time is surprised by this post. We all know how willing you are to help out your fellow man, Hazel, and giving back is definitely a theme on this site. It has definitely encouraged me to give back. It is amazing how couponing can affect so many different areas of one’s life.
Way to go Hazel!!! Hopefully we all can try and follow your wonderful example.

Ima blushing big time. Let’s just call this “teacher appreciation” because you’ve taught me so many valuable things. You’ve changed my world and are an Honest To God Angel!
Until a few weeks ago, I kept this a secret from my family but they heard all about what you taught me. One by one they’ve come on board and sent cash and spent their time & money sending coupons from DC, Portland, Vegas, Houston and Iowa because they knew I was up to something.
I’m embarrassed to give the numbers because I’m not a pro like so many of you but I don’t think it’s too bad for a newbie.
443 items
Without coupons or sales = $839.64
The Bargain Blessings way = $189.99
I kept it back because I have a smaller truck and I didn’t know if it would all fit. Yeah, I’ve got other piles for the Senior Center and some friends and relatives to haul, also. But a miracle has taken place in the past week and I’ll be driving a something other than the truck. I am so very blessed!
I can NOT thank you enough!

I have been blessed by you. I am not surprised at all by you generosity. I have now taken to calling the blessing you send me as love notes. It had my husband quit concerned with how excited I get.
I hope you have a blessed trip..
