I’ve been spending some time lately sprucing a few things up here on Bargain Blessings and one of those is my About Page. As I was making some updates I got to thinking that it’s pretty hard to get to know someone from a few paragraphs…and since many of you visit the website daily (or multiple times a day) I thought it would be a little more fun if you knew some more about me.
So, now that you know the why behind it, I thought I’d kick something off today and hope that you’ll join me since I’d love to get to know all of you better too! Each weekday I’ll share three random facts about myself. They might be related to my frugal lifestyle, or not all all. I’m not quite sure how long I’ll do it for yet, but I guess until I run out of things to share with you! Here it goes…
1. I went skiing this Saturday and fell…hard…on the first run of the day (see above pic – nice huh?). Now I’m having fun with a nice case of whiplash. I kinda feel like a bobble head just trying to sit here on the computer. Good thing I was wearing a helmet or I’d have a lot more to complain about!
2. My favorite color is blue…how’s that for basic? 😉
3. I’m a total PC girl and don’t think I’ll ever own an Apple computer. I do have an iPhone and iPad though and love those!
Now, you’re turn! Yes you…please don’t leave me hangin’! Tell me one or two things about you…how many kiddos or pets do you have…what is your favorite hobby…anything you want! 🙂

HI! This is a really neat idea! Thanks for letting us get to know you better, you are a sort of celebrity around here 🙂 I am a 31 year old Day care provider/stay at home mom just with extras I guess :). My boys are 7 and 9 and my little girl is 3 years old. I moved here about 6 years ago from Arizona but was raised in Cali so I am a Cali girl at heart, but I LOVE the season and love all there is to do here!m I still have so much to learn when it comes to couponing! I love being able to save money and get free items but my favorite part is when get to tell my husband that I saved 30-50 bucks and he gets a huge smile and is proud! He says take your time with your coupons your getting paid for that 🙂 Thank you so much for all you do! You are such a blessing (no pun intended) ;)) to us all!! I tell everyone about your site! :))
Jennie says
I’m so glad you like it and that you’re enjoying your time! 🙂 Couponing definitely takes a while to ramp up to, but if you’re doing it right it should become second nature after that. 🙂
Hazel says
LOL Candace … it’s a little freaky deaky when the couponing mind takes hold. One thing I find myself doing all the time is looking at other peoples carts and seeing what’s in them. I just stand there and think, you’re going to pay full price for that? I just shakes me head. I used to tap people on the shoulder but for several reasons, I’ve stopped. Maybe it’s the memory of being pelted with brussel sprouts when I told the lady she could have gotten her toothpaste free. Okay, not really, but it’s always a fear 🙂
Hazel says
But, when I see people in the aisles and they have a list or I see coupons, I always give them the web address for Bargain Blessings. They are always happily receptive!

Oh, the “kid” question. I never know how to answer this one! Here’s why:
Right now I have 5 children: 1 biological, 1 adopted, 1 soon-to-be adopted, and 2 foster. But I’ve also been a surrogate 3x: twins (boys) , a singleton boy, and twins (boy/girl.) My answer likely changes from month to month ;O)
I’ve lived in the same small town in CA my entire life. But I love to visit my good friend in CO & go to King Sooper! I’ve always been frugal. Even @ my wedding 20 years ago I wore old plain white heals cause I knew no one would see them.
Jennie says
Wow Heather…God bless you for all of the children and families you have helped! Ha that is so true on the wedding shoes…love that! 🙂
Tatiana Gilbertson says
Love reading more about you. I feel like I should know you since you are such a big part of my days. I love your website! It has helped me save a lot of money and now days this is a must. I have a one year old son, Ian. Being a new mom has been a very fulfilling experience and I thank God every day for his blessings. My favorite color is red and we live in Loveland. I would love to attend one of your classes, maybe you could do one in Northern Colorado someday 😉
Jennie says
Hi Tatiana…it’s nice to “get to know you”. 🙂 I would love to make it further north one of these days and am trying hard to push my way up there!
Madeline says
I am also a (mostly) stay-at-home mom. I have one son, who is 3 years old and constantly keeps me on my toes, and two greyhounds as well, so sometimes it feels like I also have three kids. LOL. The “mostly” is because I do some contract editing every now and then on the side. It’s nice to dive into another world every now and then after reasoning with a 3 year old all day.
We moved up to Loveland from Littleton in the fall, and we’ve been spending a lot of time fixing up our new home, which we bought as a foreclosure. (I’m always looking for a bargain!) And we’re hoping to expand our family and fill our new house once we feel more settled in. Also, for you NoCo folks, we desperately need some friends up here…anyone want to get together for coffee, a playdate, or coupon share?!
And, last but certainly not least, I feel very blessed to have found this site. When we my husband and I made the decision that I would stay at home, we knew we had to make cutbacks, and I asked a friend who lives in Virginia (also a stay-at-home mother of three and fellow couponer) how they made it work. I had couponed before, but briefly, and I had used a national site that required a paid subscription, so needless to say, it was less than ideal. She pointed me to a site to get me started and then told me that I HAD to find a local blogger. After a very short search, and some unsuccessful trips using the “other” site, I hit upon Bargain Blessings and I knew I found a gold mine.
So, thank you, Jennie, and Amy, and Rebekah, and everyone else who thinks to let us know about more deals–I use this site for just about everything! 🙂
Jennie says
I totally understand what you mean when you say that the dogs feel like kids. I’m convinced that my three are the equivalent of one child at times. 🙂
How neat that you do editing…I’ve always felt that I’m a better editor that I am a writer…I’m sure Amy and Rebekah can attest that that, lol.
It sounds like a lot of you are doing some sort of home fixin’ up this year. I stumbled upon this article on Pinterest that might have some good tips. I have not read it myself yet, but the title sounds good! 🙂 https://homediypins.com/2013/02/16/ways-to-save-money-building-2/

Hi. Thanks for all you do. Stay at home mom here too. 5 kids 11-19. 3 girls 2 boys. Planning to start homeschooling in the fall regretting not starting it with the older kids. Lots of research for the fall is my current hobby. But it will never take the place of my true love of couponing. Love to hand over my extras to shelters, church pantrys and freinds-family and neighbors. Trying a garden this summer. Tips for gardening and homeschooling always welcome.
Hazel says
I’m going to try my first garden, too. We always had them when I was little but I’ve never done it outside of that. I picked up two of those elevated planter dealies from Home Depot so I’ve got my fingers crossed 🙂

Wow, Jennie, I too am a former skier whose favorite color is blue and am totally PC with the numeric pad on the right side of my keyboard and laptop. I also have an Ipad for travelling. I no longer ski because of arthritis in my hip. I have lived overseas and have visited every continent including Antartica. I have 3 boys, 4 grandsons and 1 granddaughter. I love to read, enjoy my book club, travel, and am an avid scrapbooker. Thank you for the bargain blessings blog. It has saved me so much money.

I live in Northern Colorado, and have one 2-year-old boy. My husband and I just bought our first home last year. It needed lots of cleaning and fixing up on the inside, which is mostly done. So now we get to work on the dirt patches that are the front and back yards. 🙂
Your website has been such a huge help saving money on the groceries. I used to be able to sit down and do those myself, but having a 2-year-old that is constantly getting into everything has made that more difficult. All the work you do putting this together is much appreciated in my household. And any time I encounter someone who wants to get into couponing I tell them about your website.
Jennie says
Hi Deborah! 🙂 I’m glad to hear that the site is helping you…I certainly have tons of respect for anyone who has or has once had a 2 year old to care for. 🙂

My husband and I live on the plains of NoCo with our 3 kiddos. (ages, 7, 5, and 3) I homeschool and love baking. We just signed papers on a home on 40+ acres last week.. and it needs lots of remodeling, so coffee is an essential! Thanks to YOU- I got 4 V-8 fusions, 2 boxes Cheerios, 2 boxes protein bars, 4 Cracker Barrel cheeses, 4 Fresh Express Salads, 2 International Delight Iced Coffees (marked down and almost free with coupon) for around $12 on Sunday and a $3 catalina! THANK-YOU Bargain Blessings!
Jennie says
Wow 40 acres…that is awesome. And good luck with the remodeling..I’ve been there and done that…let’s just say I’m happy it’s done. 🙂
Hazel says
Great grins Jennie, what a fantastic idea – I’m loving reading about the BB Family! I hope your whiplash is improving. I tend to get that when I’m at the grocers and I see a clearance sign. Or a nice 6’2″ strolling by at Home Depot 🙂
Jennie says
Thanks Hazel! 🙂 🙂 🙂

I am in NoCo with my husband, three girls, and little boy. They’re 10, 8, 6 and 3.My husband is a native, I am a transplant. You’re going to have to pull some pretty deep roots to get me out of here! I do sometimes collect all of my grocery coupons, but the posts I use the most right now are the online and food deals.
One thing to note- coupons.com doesn’t work with Linux/Ubuntu, so I often miss out on those deals.
Jennie says
Well hello from a fellow transplant. 🙂 Also, thanks for telling me what deals you use the most…that is always good to know. That is interesting about Linux…I had not heard that before.

I am a stay-at-home mom to 3 kids, 3,6, and 9. We live on the northeastern plains of Colorado, and I am currently in the middle of redecorating my living room (at this very moment waiting for paint to dry so I can do another coat!) Thank you so much for your blog, it helps me tons, and I visit several times a day!
Jennie says
What color did you paint it Leslie?! 🙂
Laura says
What a terrific idea Jennie! I am a newbie but allready my stockpile is overtaking the house..lol. I have been couponing since last fall. I have 7 kids, ages 19-1yrs old! Gardening is my escape and I love to can too! In fact I have strawberries on my counter as we speak – waiting to be made into sugarless homemade strawberry jam. I look forward o learning more about you all.
Jennie says
Well thank you…I just hope that you all will keep sharing with me, so it’s just not like I’m talking randomly about myself, lol! Seven kids….wow…you must be one incredibly woman. 🙂 It sounds like we’ve got a lot of gardeners in the house…now I know where to go if I ever need some green thumb advice.
Libby says
My husband and I have been blessed with three children that are now 14, 11, and 8. I jokingly tell people one of two things about having 3 children. I either say I had one for The Father, one for The Son, one for The Holly Spirit and I was done! Or I say that once my husband and I were out numbered it just didn’t make sense to have more!
Jennie says
Hahaha! That’s awesome Libby! It sounds like three kiddos is a tread for Bargain Blessings readers. 🙂

First, thank-you for all the work it takes each week to research and post all the deals and match-ups. Once I found you, I gave up trying to do all the match-ups myself..thank-you for giving me those hours back! I am one who checks this website many times a day during the week and a few times on the weekend as well. I am a single mom to a beautiful almost 12 yr old daughter that I adopted from China in 2002. We also have two dogs (Westie and Scotty) and a cat and live near the Tech Center in CO. After many years in a high tech job, I decided to take a break for a year, simplify my life and spend some time with my daughter. I have learned SO much about what we can do without and how to conserve resources.I am shocked when I think about how much I used to spend on groceries! I vow to continue a simpler life and be a conscientous consumer going forward. Besides keeping up with all my ‘children’, house and yard work (arrg), I love to garden, cook, do art/crafts , travel (this past year that has just been a lot of camping:) and also run a small Ebay business selling Gymboree and other kids clothing. Nice to learn more about you and thank-you again!
Jennie says
You are so welcome!
How neat that you took a year off…I’m sure that took a lot of courage, and it sounds like you’re doing awesome! Have you gone camping at the Sand Dunes yet? We went down there last year and had a blast!
I’m already loving learning more about everyone…thanks so much for sharing! 🙂

I have 3 boys: 6, 2.5 and 3 months. I have always been a coupon nut. I even clipped coupons for my mom when I was a little girl and when my husband and I got married, I wouldn’t go out to eat unless we had a coupon. 🙂 I just left my job of 10 years two weeks ago so that I can stay home full time with the kiddos so coupons are even more of a neccessity now. Thanks so much for the match-ups! Makes my couponing less time consuming now!
Jennie says
I love that you know the exact anniversary of when you left your job Sarah! What a thing to celebrate! 🙂
Sarah says
I worked at the same place for 10 years. I only left two weeks ago, so it’s easy to remember right now. 😉 I think I worded it a little weird.
Jennie says
Ohhhhh gotcha! I thought you meant that you left 10 years and 2 weeks ago. 🙂 Well then it is super new! Congrats!!

We live in northern Colorado on 35 acres with three sons ages 13, 11, 8 and daughter, 6. I love gardening and learning how to be more self sufficient. With our income being about $3,000 a month, couponing is a necessity made so much easier because of you at Bargain Blessings! Thanks for all your hard work!
Jennie says
35 acres Faith! Wow…what a blessing! Coming from Wisconsin, I was initially so shocked at how small the lots are here in Colorado, but now that I’m used it it I must say – the lack of yard work is kinda nice. 🙂 I do hope to have a big enough yard for a garden someday though!
Robin says
My 2 beautiful granddaughters and 2 handsome grandsons all call me Grandma Bird. I also have a parakeet, Pete and 2 Chinese Blue Breasted “Button” quail, Henry and Stella. I love my outdoor birds and have feeders set up as well as watching several webcams of raptor nests. I believe we all can and should do more for our feathered friends as well as all living things. RRR
One way my husband Gary and I help others is every trip we take to the store, be it Kings or Walmart, we buy at least one item to donate to the local food bank. I love using coupons for these items and all the others I buy. Thanks for everything you do for us!
Jennie says
Grandma Bird! I love it!! My grandma had a small bird when I was growing up too. I have no idea what kind it was, but I believe it was quite small and yellow. 🙂 Wow I also love the buying one item to donate idea! How perfect to make sure you don’t forget…I might just have to start doing that myself!
AMY says
It’s great to get to know you better! I live in northern Colorado and am a single mom to a wonderful 4 1/2 year old son. We couldn’t make it financially without the help of coupon blogs like this. I rely on your blog for King Soopers, Safeway, Target and Walgreens deals and occasionally I take advantage of some Amazon and Walmart.com deals. One of my favorite hobbies is baking cookies and brownies.
Jennie says
I’m so happy to hear how the posts help you! The coupon match-ups are honestly exhausting to do (for me and the other Amy), but so worth it when I hear how many people use them. I don’t even know what I’d do without them myself, lol. Cookies and Brownies…mmmmm…I better go eat breakfast before I scarf down some junk food. 🙂
Jen says
3 kiddo’s: boy 13, girl 7, boy 4….I did the odd move in 2000 from Florida to Colorado (most people go from cold climate to warm) and love it here on the western slope.
Jennie says
Nice! You sure do have your hands full with those ages. Although I’m guessing it is much easier than when they were 1, 4 and 10. 😉 I love it here in Colorado too. You couldn’t pay me to move back to the Midwest. 🙂
Jen says
Yes, much easier….all potty trained and sleep through the night whew! Now if they could all fix themselves a sandwich I would be set 🙂
Hazel says
Gotta admit I miss the restaurants out there. I keep telling mumzie I’m going to come out and we’re just heading to Chicago for a 3 day food binge.
