Welcome 9News Colorado viewers! Thanks for stopping by. 🙂 Here is a review of some of the Back to School savings tips that I shared during this morning’s segment:
1. Use office store rewards programs to get great school supply bargains.
Office Max has backpacks, batteries, paper and more for just a penny each after rewards this week. Check out the Back to School section of Bargain Blessings for all the details on these rewards programs and how to best use them at the office supply stores this week.
Both Walmart and Target will allow you to price match deals from other stores. This can be a great way to save time and of course money without having to drive to three different stores. Keep in mind that they do place some restrictions on the type of sales that they will price match, so you will want to get familiar with your store’s policy.Walmart’s Price Match Policy

3. Many of the best deals for bath to school clothes and shoes will be online. Here are a few of my favorite retailers this year:
–The Children’s Place for kids clothing deals
4. Take advantage of low prices now and buy ahead for the rest of the year.
Think about what supplies you are going to need for the rest of this year. Does your child go through crayons quickly? Consider picking up a few extra packs. Do you go through a lot of batteries around Christmas time? As you can see from this week’s Office Max deals, back to school season is a great time to save on batteries! Do you run a small business? There is no better time than now to pick up office supplies at rock-bottom prices.
What other ways do you save during the back to school season? Please share in the comments section!

Children’s second hand stores are also a great score. Did you know some of their clothes still have original price tags still on them.

I recently read an article that had a helpful tip. Buy one or two new outfits now for school and wait until the clothes go on clearance to buy the rest of them. You can save anywhere from 30%-50% off the clothes depending how long you wait to buy them. Who said you had to buy a whole new kids wardrobe at the beginning of the school year. Oh, wait I know store retailers.
What I do is buy clothes that are one to two sizes bigger than my kids when they are on clearance. I store them in a plastic tub in their closets, that way I never pay full price, and if they happen to have a growth spurt in the middle of the year then I am prepared.

Hubby and I cherry pick the office stores on Sunday during the day — taking my inlaws and BIL with us and we pick up a large stock of the loss leaders which I then store in our basement so year round we have school supplies for my 7 kids. This helps alot because some go back to school in late July, others in August and sometimes the stores don’t yet have supplies when we are shopping. The only things I don’t buy large stock in are things like markers, ball point pens, — stuff that dries out over time.

That sounds like a great way to go about things Laura…especially with such a large family!

I went to Wal-Mart today and picked up the bic 10-pack crystal ink pens for $.50 each with price matching and then used the $1.50/2 bic stationary coupon found on Facebook which gave me a .50 overage! As well as the new $1 off reach dental floss coupon which were .97 and that gave me a .03 overage! I used the overage to pay for other school supplies. It was a little, but that gave me a few boxes of crayons for free! 🙂

Awesome! Thanks for the heads up Christina! That sounds like a fantastic trip!

I used some of my rewards money to purchase printer ink for my college aged son’s printer in his dorm room. That stuff is expensive and hard on a student’s wallet!

We as grandparents, split the list(s) 3 ways with the other grandparents and parents. We are more then willing to help with the supplies and it brings back lots of memories of doing it for our own kids, who are now moms and dads!
One way we help cut costs for school supplies for our grand kids is to not only buy items on sale all year, watch the markdown areas of your local stores and of course with coupons.
