So often in life I think that many of us get sucked in to comparing ourselves to the rest of the world. This can be done in many different ways…
…they have a bigger house
…she has a better relationship with God
…I’ll never be that thin
…why can’t I save as much money for my family
…they have such a great marriage, why can’t I be that lucky
…if only I was in a better position at work
I could go on and on with this list. Do any of them ring a bell for you?
When I find myself comparing my self to others in various was I find peace in the truth that we do not have to hold ourselves to the standards of this world. God does not ask us to make the people around us the standard for what we want/do/think. Our goal should be to seek God’s will for OUR own life and follow that to the best of our ability with His help.
Romans 12:2 (NLT)
Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.
A challenge for you this week…
Consider what areas you may have been holding yourself to the world’s standards rather than God’s standards and ask for His help to adjust your thinking in those areas.
Prayer for this week…
Dear God….I pray that you would help all of us to examine our hearts for areas in which our standards and views need to be adjusted. Help us to know what your will is for our unique life and guide us in the direction that we need to go to fulfill that plan. Amen.

I am a newlywed and have been using this site to help us stay within our budget. I was so happy to stumble upon this devotional today- sometimes when life gets busy, it’s easy to get distracted with material and physical things. Thanks so much for helping me get right with God!
