If you are looking for an easy and fun way to create something handmade and festive that your child(ren) can help with, these do-it-yourself ornaments are perfect! They are easy to make and perfect to give as a simple yet heartfelt gift to a teacher, grandparent, or friend. Even if you don’t have kids, these are still fun to craft and make great gifts!
This project is also a great way to “recycle” old light bulbs. Now that CFL light bulbs are the norm, you won’t always have access to the “traditional” light bulb shape. Therefore, be sure to save your old bulbs as they burn out, and use the old version in a new way. You never know, your light bulb ornament may be an antique someday!
I chose to make a reindeer and snowman ornament, but be creative and think of other characters that you could create. I’m picturing some Santa, penguin, and Grinch light bulb ornaments already!

Light Bulb Ornaments
Supplies:
Light bulbs
Acrylic paint and sponge paint brushes
Hot glue gun
Ribbon
Accessories (depend on which character you make)
Instructions:
Paint the light bulb with acrylic paint based on what color of character you are creating. Once dry, glue on accessories as desired. For the snowman, I used buttons for the belly, puff paint for the nose, a strip of cloth for the scarf, branches for the arms, and a permanent marker for the eyes. For the reindeer, I used googly eyes, a red pom pom for the nose, and pipe cleaners for the antlers. Once you have it decorated, glue a ribbon to the back of the light bulb in a loop so it hangs from the tree.
