I don’t know about you, but I hate it when I need to pull just about everything out of my freezer just to see if I have something on hand. This week, I needed frozen corn for a recipe and I couldn’t remember if I had any on hand. Well, I checked in my disastrous messy freezer and didn’t see anything so I picked some up from the grocery store. Well, while I was putting the corn away guess what I came across? Two frozen bags of corn…uuugggghhh!
This is exactly why it is so important to stay organized when your a couponer. When you are trying to maximize every inch of space that you have, sometimes things can get overlooked.
I decided after the corn incident that it was about time to clean out my refrigerator and freezer for a fresh start this holiday season. Turkeys will start to go on sale in the next two weeks and I want to be ready and able to snag a few! It took me almost two hours to pull everything out, clean the inside and put it all back in, but now that it is done I am SO glad I took the time. I wish I would have remembered to take a before picture, but I did take an after picture and that is what you see above.
So…I know you saw it coming…this is your challenge this week! 😉 Clean out and organize your refrigerator and freezer. Even if you do it little by little, set aside a few hours this week to get the job done. Next week I’m going to be posting about freezer cooking and I want you all to be ready.
Please leave a comment when you are done this this challenge. I’d love to hear how it went for you. Perhaps some of you are already on top of this and can check it off your list right away!

I try to organize my freezer somewhat regularly. I usually do really well on my regular freezer but the coffin freezer is pretty much a disaster right now. My problem is my husband…I try to have all of the veggies on one shelf and meat on another and actual meals on another etc but then my husband will put something away and it’s never in the right spot. Since it’s one of those issues like the dishwasher loading (the wrong way is better than not at all) I’m not going to complain to him about it 🙂

I am still working on my fridge and freezers but between being sick and canning there has not been much time. I did clean out the fridge last night but I did not throughly clean it hopefully soon. I am going to once again try keeping a list of what is in my freezers so wish me luck

I hope you feel better soon JoAnn! Take it easy. 🙂

I keep track of things in my freezer on a dry erase board on the side of my fridge/freezer. I list all the things in the freezer and put the number I have next to it. Every time I put something in or take something out I mark the board accordingly. It does take effort to remember to mark things, but after a while becomes habit. It is great because I know when I am out or low on things in all the different things my freezers!

That sounds like a fantastic system Brittany!

Definitely going to have to get after it on this one! I’ve had to force myself to stop buying freezer items right now because mine is so packed. Hopefully I’ll get to it this weekend though and put a dent in the stock by using up some of what’s in there! 🙂

Wow, yours looks great, Jennie!
My fridge-freezer is the one that needs help-got some random stuff in there that I just keep ignoring. My freezer in the garage stays a little neater b/c it’s packed with mostly larger items like pizzas, once a month cooking meals, and sometimes boxes from Omaha Steaks that my dad sends us.

What a great challenge! I have been putting off dealing with the mess in my freezer. Last night I went to City Market and bought a lot of frozen veggies. When I got home it was late and I had to just throw them in and slam the door. Thanks for the encouragement!!!

We usually keep up pretty well with our freezers (top of the fridge and the chest freezer). Our fridge’s freezer is small enough that I can usually see everything inside when I open the door, but the chest freezer is another story.
I’ve found it is helpful to keep a running inventory on the outside of the chest freezer. I taped a plastic paper protector to the outside of the chest freezer. It’s easy to pull out the paper inventory from the plastic sleeve when I sit down at my desk to plan meals.

Inspiring! You should make this a contest (because I would win! 😛 ) with before and after pictures. My freezer/fridge is jam-packed and it always takes me forever to find what I need!
