Cherry season is in full swing and I was recently invited by Sam’s Club to participate in their “Mouthwatering Cherry Cobbler” Challenge. As part of the challenge, they provided me with all the essentials to host a cherry-inspired summer soiree.
I have to say that this was one of the most fun challenges that I’ve ever participated in. I’ve always enjoyed cherries fresh, but I’ve never really cooked with them so I had a blast coming up with two mouthwatering cherry dishes to serve at my Cherry Soiree! The good thing is that after tasting the cherries that I picked up at Sam’s I knew it wasn’t going to be hard to make something delicious. I can honestly say that I’ve never tasted a better cherry in my live. They were so fresh and just the perfect amount of sweetness.
Armed with both Sweet Red Cherries and Ranier Cherries, I set to work in the kitchen to come up with two cherry inspired dishes to serve my guests. After a little brainstorming about my favorite cherry dishes, I came up with a Cherry Almond Cobbler and Banana Split Bread. Both of them were huge hits and every bit as good as I had hoped that they would be! Here are the recipes if you would like to make them on your own:
Almond Cherry Cobbler
Ingredients
1/2 cup Butter
1 cup flour
1 cup sugar
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 cup milk
1-1/2 cups pitted Red cherries
1 cup pitted Ranier cherries
3/4 cup white sugar
1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
1/2 cup slivered almonds
Directions
1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees.
2. While your oven is preheating, place a half a stick of butter in your baking dish and place it in the oven. Once the butter is melted (about 5 minutes), remove the pan from the oven.
3. Stir together 1 cup flour, 1 cup sugar and baking powder. Mix in the milk and then pour the batter over the melted butter in the pan. Do not stir.
4. Toss both varieties of cherries with 3/4 cups of sugar and 1 tablespoon of flour. Pour mixture over batter (do not mix).
5. Bake for 50 minutes and then add the slivered almonds on top.
6. Cook for another 10-15 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
Banana Split Bread
Ingredients
1/2 cup butter
1 cup sugar
1 egg
1 cup mashed ripe bananas
1 cup pitted cherries
1/4 cup milk
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1 cup chocolate chips
3/4 cup chopped walnuts
Directions
1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees.
2. Cream butter and sugar. Add egg.
3. Combine bananas, cherries and milk.
4. Combine flour, baking powder and baking soda.
5. Mix the three above mixtures together.
6. Fold in chocolate chips and walnuts.
7. Pour into greased loaf ban and bake for 60 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
Let me know if you decide to try either of these. I would love to hear what you think!

Oh my goodness! This cobbler is the best I ever had. I haven’t changed the recipe a bit. Now that cherries are on sale (thanks to BargainBlessings), we made a couple of these cobblers and shared it with our cousins. They absolutely loved it. Thank you so much 🙂
