Last week I had the opportunity to visit the Denver Butterfly Pavilion located in Westminster Colorado. I had never been before, so I was pretty excited but had no idea of what to expect. The day I visited also happened to be a particularly stressful one, so I was really looking forward to escaping reality for a few hours to spend some time relaxing with nature – and that’s exactly what what I got!
If you have never been to the Butterfly Pavilion before, I very highly recommend it. Not only do they have tons of activities for children, but I also found it to be a perfect escape for adults! Here are some highlights from my visit
The Wings of the Tropics area (where all the butterflies are) was pretty packed with everyone from school kids to older visitors when I went through but it really didn’t affect my experience much. There is something so magical about walking through a tropical rainforest with 1,600 fluttering butterflies! I loved every moment of it!
If you’ve got kids that are more in to the creepy crawlies than butterflies, don’t worry – they have you covered there to! This, my friends, is a hissing cockroach. Lovely, right? 😉 You can even have the “opportunity” to hold Rosie, their ambassador tarantula spider!
One thing that I didn’t expect was everything the Butterfly Pavillion had to offer in addition to the butterflies! When you visit, make sure to check out their Tropical Odyssey and Water’s Edge interactive areas! They also have a pretty awesome gift shop.
Coming up on Saturday, July 20th, the Butterfly Pavilion will be celebrating their birthday by hosting an event called Insectival. It will run from 9:00am to 5:00pm and you’ll be able to enough Carnival Games, Live Entertainment, Bug Safaris, Cockroach Races, Face Painting, Bug-tastic Adventures and a lot more!
In addition to being open seven days a week from 9:00am-5:00pm (last entrance at 4:15pm), the Butterfly Pavilion hosts birthday parties, special events and even weddings. During the eighteen years that they have been in existence they have provided nearly 4.5 million visitors with hands-on educational experiences!

We love the Butterfly Pavilion too! We have the Butterfly Pavilion and Children’s Museum of Denver Dual Membership. It is $132 for an annual family membership for both locations. It is $43 less than buying them individually. I highly recommend this deal as our children love visit both the Butterfly Pavilion and the Children’s Museum frequently.
