Thank you for the tips Madeline! I can’t wait to try it again. Fish is so important and I have the hardest time trying to get my family to eat it. This recipe sounds really good! :0)
I’ve purchased this tilapia before and it’s fantastic. It may be frozen but each filet is individually sealed in a vacuum package. You can’t tell that it was frozen even after storing it for months.
Also, Albertson’s has a 10% off deal on all frozen food, so instead of $2.66 per pound, I got it for $2.30 per pound. Very much worth it! Between that and the tilapia we bought at Sunflower Wednesday and packaged and froze with our FoodSaver, we’ll have fish to last us a good long while!
I’ve only cooked Tilapia once and it was extremely fishy. We didn’t enjoy it at all, so I’ve been hesitant to try it again. I breaded and baked it last time, obviously that didn’t work. Do you have a good recipe?
We use multiple recipes for tilapia, and one of my favorites is Sesame Crusted Tilapia. But before I give the recipe, I will say one thing about the fishy flavor. You have to be careful which side you cook tilapia on. The two sides should look very different–one will have a consistent very pale pink color, and the other will have a dark pink streak running down the center and you will be able to see a lot more lines. Always cook it with the dark side down. If you don’t, it will taste completely different and very, very fishy. (I’ve learned this the hard way.) If you cook it properly it should have a very mild flavor.
Sesame Crusted Tilapia
2T lime juice
2T soy sauce
2tsp minced fresh ginger
2tsp olive oil
1/2 tsp sesame oil
Whisk together. Place 4 6oz tilapia filets in a shallow nonstick baking pan and pour mixture overtop. Sprinkle 2T sesame seeds evenly over fish. Bake at 425F for about 8 min. (Although, I’ve found it takes a bit longer in my oven.)
